October Breast Cancer Fundraiser
Hello everyone! My name is Tiffany, and this October I want to help raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation. I’m pledging $1 for every mile I walk throughout the month of October.
Most of us know someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer. For me, one of those people is someone very special: my old boss and dear friend, Patty Jo.
Patty Jo worked with my mom when I was a teenager. She was also the first person to ever dye my hair—which started my lifelong journey of rarely seeing my natural hair color again! I remember her teasing me about how thick my hair was and joking about what she would do to have hair like mine.
Later, in my early adulthood, Patty Jo became one of my bosses at my first job. We actually started out working side by side in housekeeping and laundry, where she taught me everything there was to know about laundry—skills I still use today.
Eventually, she became head housekeeper, and I became her assistant head housekeeper. During that time, she taught me so much more than just the job. She taught me how to treat employees, how to communicate, and how to talk through problems instead of letting them become bigger issues. She made those years at the hotel fun and memorable, and so many of the things she taught me have stayed with me.
Patty Jo passed away in 2020, but every now and then my mind still drifts back to her and all the wonderful memories we shared.
So this October, I’m walking in her memory and for everyone whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.
The most I’ve ever walked in one month was a little over 80 miles last May as part of an Anytime Fitness challenge at my local gym. That challenge really pushed me to get up, get moving, and become more active—and now I’m excited to put those miles toward something meaningful.
If you’d like to join me in raising money for a good cause, there are lots of ways to help:
Donate alongside me
Walk with me and help raise awareness
Share this post with your friends and family
Or simply cheer me on throughout the month!
Every mile and every bit of support matters. Let’s make this October one to remember—and walk it in honor of those we’ve lost, those who are fighting, and those who have overcome.
Here’s to making every mile count!
