Cancer Called (CancerCalled.com) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting cancer survivors through meaningful, handmade gifts that symbolize prayer, hope, and resilience. Our mission is to inspire empathy and support for cancer patients through mentorship and artistic philanthropic opportunities. We work towards uplifting individuals impacted by cancer, connect communities, and provide therapeutic opportunities across various stages of life. Each of our handmade products, including lap cloths and beads, is crafted by volunteers and was originally designed by cancer survivors themselves.

Founded by Tamara Bara, a two-time cancer survivor currently living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, Cancer Called embodies the spirit of perseverance. Tamara’s personal journey fuels the organization’s commitment to inspire others facing the same challenges, offering both emotional and tangible support to those in need. Her ongoing fight serves as a beacon of hope and determination for all cancer survivors.

Our Initiatives:

Connecting with Youth in Group Homes: We offer beading sessions designed as art therapy to help young individuals process trauma and build emotional resilience. This initiative provides a creative outlet for youth in group homes, offering them an opportunity for self-expression while fostering healing.

Engaging Seniors in Senior Living Communities: Cancer Called hosts crochet and beading workshops in senior living and community centers. These sessions not only combat the loneliness often experienced by the elderly but also allow seniors to actively contribute to the community, enriching their lives with purpose and connection.

Corporate Team Building for Social Good: We organize corporate team-building events that focus on giving back to the community. These activities foster a sense of unity while supporting Cancer Called’s philanthropic mission, allowing participants to engage in impactful work that benefits cancer survivors.

Empowering Women in Africa: In partnership with women in Africa, we provide fair wages for crocheting handmade cloths for cancer survivors worldwide. This initiative not only creates a sustainable livelihood for women but also strengthens global solidarity in the fight against cancer.
