Hi! My name is Lia, and I’m in 7th grade, getting ready to celebrate my Bat Mitzvah. Turning 12 is a really special time, and it’s made me think about how I can take on more responsibility and give back to others.
I was born two months early, at just 31.5 weeks, and spent the first two months of my life in the NICU at Asaf Harofeh Hospital in Israel, not far from my hometown of Modiin. While I don’t remember it, my parents always remind me how tiny I was—about the size of a small bag of sugar! They told me how hard it was to find preemie-sized clothes, and how much it meant to them when friends and family helped by bringing these tiny outfits. Even though it was a challenging time, those preemie clothes brought a sense of joy and normalcy to our lives.
As part of my Bat Mitzvah, I want to give back to the NICU where I began my life by bringing smiles to parents who are going through similar challenges. I’m raising money to buy 300 sets of preemie-sized onesies and socks, and I’ll be making “onesie cupcakes” with my friends to personally deliver to the NICU families at Asaf Harofeh Hospital and other hospitals in need in Israel. With everything Israel has been going through since October 7th, it’s my way of bringing a little light and comfort to parents who are dealing with both the war and the challenges of having a preemie baby.
I'm grateful to be celebrating my Bat Mitzvah and to have come such a long way since week 31.5.
Please help me reach my goal so I can bring these special gifts to the families who need them. Any amount, big or small, will make a difference!
Thank you so much for your support!
Lia ❤️
