Help Us Create a Safe and Healing Home for Our Children

To everyone who has followed Liam’s journey over the years—thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued prayers, thoughts, and support. Liam is doing incredibly well at Kempsville Behavioral Center and is truly thriving. We are so proud of the progress he’s made, but he still has a long road ahead—and so do we as a family.

Liam continues to struggle with opening up about the traumatic events that led to his depression and suicidal ideations. Each time he completes a stay, we’re encouraged to enroll him in the facility’s day program, but the distance makes it nearly impossible for us to manage consistently.

This past January, our world was shattered when we learned that Liam had been a victim of assault by someone we loved and trusted. Heartbreakingly, we also discovered that our other children were victims as well. The shock and pain of that news were indescribable. It has been the most difficult year our family has ever faced—leaving us feeling torn apart at the seams. We are still fighting for justice for our children and doing our best to hold everything together. What little “village” we once had has disappeared, and we’ve been struggling to navigate this journey on our own.

While we wish we could share more details, our top priority is protecting our children’s privacy. We are deeply grateful for the incredible support we’ve received from organizations like Kids First and CHKD, who have stood by us and advocated for our children’s healing and well-being.

Nick and I bought our home in North Carolina believing it would be our forever home. But after everything that has happened, we’ve realized we need a new beginning—a place where our children can feel safe and begin to heal, free from the painful memories that linger here. We hope to move back to Virginia, where Nick can be closer to work and better able to help with the children’s therapy appointments (we currently have five each week). We also want to be closer to the resources and programs Liam needs to continue his progress—resources that simply aren’t available in our small town.

Unfortunately, after years of medical expenses, travel costs to treatment facilities, and time missed from work, that dream feels financially out of reach right now. We have been searching for organizations or charities that may offer assistance in these situations without luck.

When we asked our kids about moving, their faces lit up. They’re eager to leave behind this house and the memories attached to it. We’re all ready for a fresh start.

Through this GoFundMe, we’re reaching out to compassionate friends, family, and kind strangers who may be able to help us build a safe, healing home for our children—a place where they can finally feel peace and begin to truly thrive again.

As a survivor of assault myself, I know firsthand the lifelong impact of trauma. When I was young, I tried to tell my mother what had happened, but I wasn’t believed. That experience has shaped who I am today and made me determined to always believe, protect, and fiercely advocate for my children.

This year, I’ve been very private about what our family has endured. But today, I’m choosing to be vulnerable—hoping that another mother reading this will know she’s not alone, that there are resources, support, and compassionate people who care and can help.

Please consider sharing our story or contributing if you’re able. Together, we can make our children’s dream of a safe and peaceful home a reality.

A 10% portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Kids First in gratitude for their incredible work supporting our children and other families affected by trauma.

If you or someone you know is a survivor of abuse, please reach out for help. Believe them. Support them. Everyone deserves the chance to heal and thrive.

With gratitude and hope,
Becca & Family
