Support Queer Pride Africa: Building Hope, Dignity & Economic Independence
Who We Are:
We are Queer Pride Africa, a resilient group of LGBTQ+ refugees living in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. Despite facing discrimination, violence, and exclusion, we continue to rise united by love, hope, and a shared dream of freedom and dignity.
Every day, our community struggles for food, safety, and acceptance. But we refuse to give up. Instead, we are building sustainable projects that will bring lasting change and self-reliance for our people.
Our Vision: Empowerment Through Sustainable Projects
Our goal is to create economic independence, food security, and dignity for LGBTQ+ refugees by developing community-based projects that provide skills, income, and stability.
Thanks to small donations and local efforts, we have already secured a piece of land where we plan to begin the first phase of our transformation journey.
Our Planned Projects
1. Agriculture Project
Starting with maize cultivation to provide food and income for our community. This will ensure food security and help us sustain daily needs.
2. Poultry Project
Rearing chickens for eggs and meat will provide both nutrition and livelihood opportunities for our members.
3. Brick-Making Project
A sustainable initiative to produce eco-friendly bricks for construction. This will reduce dependency on external sources and offer job opportunities for LGBTQ+ youth.
4. Tailoring & Craft-Making Project
Training queer refugees in tailoring and handcraft making such as bags, jewelry, and decorative items to empower creativity and generate income, especially for women and trans individuals.
5. Cattle Rearing Project
This will support milk production, improve nutrition, and provide another steady income stream for our community.
Our first phase begins with the agricultural project, which requires:
Land preparation & soil testing
Seeds & fertilizers
Farm tools & water access
Labour & transport
Storage and maintenance materials
After that, any additional support will help us expand into poultry, brick-making, tailoring, and cattle rearing projects step by step.
Why Your Support Matters
LGBTQ+ refugees in camps like Kakuma face unimaginable challenges from hunger to harassment. Through these projects, we want to create safe spaces of work, learning, and belonging where every queer person can rebuild their life with pride and dignity.
Your support means:
A safe meal for someone who has gone hungry
A job opportunity for a young queer refugee
A step closer to independence and equality
