My name is Nichole and I am Leah’s older sister. With my background as an RN I’ve been able to be her advocate medically since diagnosis, but now I am hoping to assist her financially as well, to take that burden off of her while she’s going through treatment and be able to focus on her health.
On August 26, 2024, what started as a simple urgent care visit for some persistent abdominal pain and a low grade fever, quickly turned out to be the scariest day of her life. Leah was sent from urgent care to the emergency room to have a CT scan done.
I will never forget the look on her face when she FaceTimed me crying, saying the ER doctor told her the CT scan showed she has cancer.
This led to a 4 night hospital admission where they did biopsies of multiple areas and diagnosed her with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.
Incurable but treatable were the words the oncologist used.
For those of you who don’t know Leah personally, she is a beautiful 31 year old woman who prior to this was healthy and thriving. So as you can imagine, hearing this has been devastating to her and all of us who love her.
Due to the aggressive nature of her specific cancer, she had a port placed on 9/18 and started chemotherapy on 9/19. They plan to do 6 rounds of the medication that she is on currently, assessing half way through to make sure it is working.
Prior to this she was independent and working full time. She has health insurance but as we all know, there is a threshold before the insurance company covers everything so the medical bills are starting to come in left and right. And come January 1st, assuming she is able to work and maintain her coverage, that threshold starts all over again. If she is unable to continue working, then in addition to the medical bills she will also have to pay out of pocket for insurance.
Please consider donating to help Leah out as she faces this challenging journey ahead. If you are unable to donate monetarily please consider sharing this page with friends and family.
Thank you so much for your consideration and please lift Leah up in your prayers.
