On Monday March 16, 2026, our friend, Lawrence Fong received a devastating call. His retirement hale he had been working on for over two years had been burned to the ground in the middle of the night.
Upon arriving at the property, he observed his hard work and dreams had truly gone up in smoke. The property had no occupants yet living there and the cause remains undetermined.
For any that have known Lawrence and his family, he exemplifies hard work, humility, generosity and an open home to friend and stranger alike. A veteran of the US military and dedicated father and husband, we have observed his love for community, always willing to help others and putting their interests above his own. He started the Hilo Reign Rugby Club to create opportunity for youth.
We wanted to share his story and help assist him and his family in rebuilding. As community members who have been recipients of his friendship, kindness, and generosity, this is a small token we can offer in support of our dear friend. Any kokua and prayers are appreciated, even if it's a share. Thank you for your aloha and consideration.
