Support Laurie Wegrzyn's Fight Against ALS

Laurie Wegrzyn was diagnosed with ALS in June of 2023. We all know Laurie to be strong, independent, resilient and ready for any challenges that life sends her way. Since Laurie's diagnosis, she has taken the only two FDA approved drugs for ALS. There was a third that was pulled by the FDA in March 2024. This is one challenge that she cannot fight alone or with just the help of Tim, daughters Jess & Cassie, and extended family and friends. That is why the many friends and family members of Laurie have started this fundraising effort so that Laurie can receive the medical care that is needed to support her wellness and care.

To know Laurie is to know love and family. She makes everyone feel like family the minute you get to know her. Her personal love and joy of cooking for others, planting summer flowers in her yard to create an oasis for all to enjoy, Italian style dinners, and her passion for our Buffalo Bills, is what makes Laurie special. Of course her love of dogs, walking Ellie along the bike path and spending time with her granddaughter, Leighton are at the top.

Laurie’s continued strength to live her life to her fullest, all the while with her usual dignity and grace has inspired our family. It hasn't been up until these last couple months where ALS has truly impacted her way of life and ability to sustain those activities that she enjoys. Nonetheless, she has fought back relentlessly and would do anything for her family, which also now includes her 1 year old granddaughter.

Laurie continues to fight everything ALS throws her way. The challenges are many. Some but not all of them are, current and upcoming rising expenses to provide medicine and therapy that she needs, the necessary changes to the house to maintain Laurie's overall quality of life to make it handicap accessible, the required needs of visiting nurses and physical therapists for house visits, and also the needed equipment and devices are just some of the costs required to just live comfortably… battling ALS is starting to add up in the thousands.

We are asking with the same dignity and grace of Laurie for the WNY community, that consistently gives and supports those in need, for your help and support towards Laurie’s fight and ongoing battle with ALS.
