Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friend Lauren, who is facing an incredibly difficult and unjust situation. To know her is to love her. Lauren is vivacious, kind, funny and deeply rooted in her convictions- most of which is to show the world love and compassion. She shows up for friends- from just being by the phone to lend an open and non judgmental ear, to opening her home to anyone that needs a soft place to land for a few months. Lauren is a hard worker- she has been employed at the Disneyland resort, committed to bringing smiles and magic to everyone around her both on and off the job. On her rare day off, Lauren can be found perfecting her garden in her home that was initially gifted to her through her precious grandmother’s inheritance to which she dutifully took over the mortgage payments.

Above all else, Lauren is fiercely loyal. This loyalty is both her best and most vulnerable quality. Lauren got married in 2009 and for many years of this marriage, she sacrificed and made compromises for the sake of the relationship. She whole heartedly supported her husband to help him pursue his dream while he was unemployed. These efforts weren’t sustainable, and arguably one sided, and unfortunately it became necessary to part ways. Although a bit bruised from the grueling (and LONG) legal process, Lauren has come out stronger in the end, and in true Lauren form- has risen above it all.

After enduring years of emotional and financial hardship in her marriage, Lauren is now being forced to make an impossible decision: she must come up with $220,000 within the next 30 days to keep the family home that was passed down to her through inheritance from her beloved grandmother. In the divorce settlement, her ex-husband has fought to claim part of this inherited property, and now, due to his demands, Lauren must pay him $220,000 to buy him out and preserve her grandmother’s home.

Lauren’s ex-husband has been unemployed for several of the end years of their marriage and has contributed little to their family’s well-being. His ongoing attempts to claim a part of Lauren’s inheritance have added yet another layer of pain and financial strain to an already overwhelming situation. Now, in an effort to protect her home and the future she’s desperately trying to build, Lauren is faced with the crushing reality of having to come up with a substantial amount of money in an incredibly short period of time.

Lauren has had to pick up overtime, 6th days and any extra gigs she’s able to get her hands on in order to stay a float, but due to the short timeline she has to pay this buyout, we are asking the village for help.
