A little over a month ago, I received a call early Sunday morning from my brother Joe asking me if I had talked to my sister Laura. My first response was no. I checked my phone and saw several missed messages. Then I asked him if something had happened to one of her parents. He said no, Tyler, and I needed to call her. My heart sank. I called Laura and broke down as she told me Tyler had overdosed.
For the last 10 years, she had fought alongside him as he battled bipolar depression and substance abuse. He had finally gotten a well-paying job, he was living with a nice girlfriend, and mended fences with family members. We will never know why he chose to self-destruct; we can only hope he is no longer in pain.
Tyler was a happy, silly baby. He grew up to be an adventurous kid who loved sports, rap music, food, telling jokes, spending time with animals, family, and friends. Laura is planning a memorial the weekend after Thanksgiving. I would love to support Laura and the Chalmers family. I am praying a little support from those who are able will enable me to join in Tyler's Memorial. Thank you for your generosity and support.
