Support Laquisha's Financial Stability

My name is Kathy Gleason. I live in Concord, CA. I am continuing to raise funds for my friend Laquisha Nichals to pay down/pay off Laquisha’s car loan to help stabilize her life financially.

If you have followed this journey, you know that Laquisha is a mom of 3 teenage girls in high school and middle school. As long as I have known Laquisha, she has worked. A few years ago, she left a relationship and became a single mom. Without going into detail, this was a good decision for her and her girls. We helped her secure an apartment in December 2023 when the family was facing homelessness. In July of 2024, we discovered Laquisha was behind on bills, including rent, utilities, and payments on a used car she had to buy when her old car was beyond repair. In August 2024, we helped her catch up on bills and recognized that she needed more help.

That’s when a generous anonymous donor stepped in with a donation of $5,000 to help her if it would change the family’s life for the better. Along with our anonymous donor, we looked at Laquisha’s income and bills and determined the most logical thing we could do financially to help this family would be to pay down/pay off her high-interest used car loan thru Enterprise/Santander, which was $468 per month. We (anonymous donor of $5k, mutual friend Dyan Cushing, and myself) decided this would be the family’s Christmas present. In phases one and two of a GoFundMe in 2024, we were able to make two payments on Laquisha’s high-interest car loan in the amount of slightly over $10,000. She now has a balance of $7,047.93 due. Her next payment of $457 is due February 2. Laquisha has worked two jobs for several years now, and the grind is affecting her health. She will be forced to quit her second job and take a break very soon.

Welcome to phase 3 of this fundraiser! I have a total of $250 from another anonymous donor, Kathy Barnett, and myself to start phase 3. That brings the total we need down to $6,797.93. I know people may have donation fatigue after the holidays and now the California wildfires, but I hope friends will still donate to reduce or pay off this car loan. Any amount will help. This will help Laquisha stabilize financially and remain in housing.
