Hi. We’re Kathy and Shane. And this is our son, Lane.

Lane is 27 years old. He’s autistic. He lives at home with us.

We’ve been raising Lane his whole life. Not just when he was little — every stage, every year, every day. Parenting didn’t stop at 18 for us. It just kept going.

Some days are good days. Some days are really hard. Some days are exhausting before they even start. Lane needs routine, structure, and support. He also needs dignity, independence, and a sense of control. Balancing all of that isn’t easy, and we don’t always get it right.

We’re not asking for sympathy, and we’re not asking for handouts.

We’re trying to plan for Lane’s future.

Right now, Lane lives with us full-time. We’re always there to help him, guide him, and keep him on track. That works today. But we know there will come a day when we can’t do this the way we do now.

The funds raised through this project are going toward creating a small, separate living space for Lane — something right in our our back yard where he will be monitored 24/7! A place where he can have his own routine, his own space, and more independence, while still being safe and supported.

That means: A small living area where Lane can make his coffee, cook simple meals, and have privacy. This would be a step toward independence that doesn’t overwhelm him

Peace of mind knowing he’s learning how to live as an adult in a way that works for him. This isn’t about pushing Lane out of our home.

It’s about helping him grow — and preparing for a future we all know is coming.

We’re doing the best we can, one step at a time.

And we’re sharing our story because we know we’re not the only family living this life.
