Help us sponsor a refugee family through Welcome corps
Hello ! We are fundraising to bring a refugee family to the U.S. via Welcome Corps.
Welcome Corps launched in 2023 and is a federal initiative led by the State Department that allows everyday Americans to sponsor refugees and provide a safe, legal pathway for refugees to come to the United States. A refugee is a person forced to flee their country because of violence or persecution.
Through Welcome Corps, this is an opportunity for us to sponsor a refugee family that is seeking safety and opportunity to the United States.
Many refugees spend many years with refugee status, often living in refugee camps or settlements that provide limited opportunity for one to realize their full potential. Only about 1% of refugees have the opportunity to move to a country like the United States.
All refugees entering the U.S. from a third country are screened by the U.S. government prior to arrival.
In our particular case , we plan to sponsor a family of five that consist of a mother and her four children. Their ages range from 14 to 19 and they have been living in Egypt as refugees for five years. They currently hold a refugee registration card (blue card) which is the last step in refugee status before they are accepted by the hosting country. The refugee registration card ( blue card) is issued to persons who had been formally recognized as refugees by UNHCR.
Even thought they have that status it could still take many years until they are relocated to a hosting country. During these past 5 years the kids have missed out on a crucial education period. The mother and her kids value education and they are eager to go back to school as soon as possible so they can catch up on what they have missed. They believe education is what is going to grant them a bright future.
Her eldest daughter has also developed lumps on her throat area that need to be monitored but due to limited resources she wasn’t able to do much about it. She wants her daughter to be checked as soon as possible to know if any treatment is necessary or not.
Based on Welcome Corps' guidance, we need to raise $2,425 per family member to sponsor a family. We have set the goal to raise $20,000 to ensure that the family has adequate support to become settled and self-sufficient. This ensures that we are adequately prepared to support a family in finding their first home (security deposit, rent for the first few months), furnishing the apartment, and supporting a family with their basic needs (food, clothing, etc.) as they settle into their new community.
Will you consider a donation to support our efforts in sponsorship? Your donation will be used to cover the costs for supporting a family to settle in California.
Help us fulfill their dream of finding a place they can prosper and feel settled.
