Support Lakòl Band Carnival 2025

Please help me support Lakòl Band!

Lakol Band is the bannapye (band on foot) from Petavi, a small farming and fishing village on the Southeast coast of Haiti near Jacmel.

A huge part of Haitian Carnival traditions, bannapye are street procession parties that happen from January 6, at the start of Carnival season, until Ash Wednesday when the instruments and musicians shift from the folly and fun of bannapye into the Spiritiual tradition of Rara.

Over the years my community in Petavi has taught me what it means to be cultural bearers - elders and the youth - despite the difficulties of life in Haiti, traditions are repeated, passed down and held dear.

Lakòl Band needs funds to repair their instruments, to pay studio fees for this year's song recording and for the purchasing of t-shirts. Please donate - any bit helps!

Bannapye, ki se gwo plezi ki fèt nan lari, reprezante yon kokènchèn moso nan tradisyon kanaval an Ayiti. Bannapye konmanse met deyo depi 6 Janvye epi apre Madi Gra, mizisyen yo ak enstriman yo kite banbòch kanaval la dèyè pou yo vire nan tradisyon espirityèl yo rele Rara.

Pou kèk anne, map swiv kouman kominote mwen nan Petavi ap aprann mwen kisa sa vle di lè w se mèt tradisyon andan yon peyi. Granmoun kou jèn - menm lè peyi a pa bon menm - yo pa lage tradisyon yo epi yo fè tout sa yo kapab pou kenbe yo wo.

Lakòl Band bezwen èd pou yo pase men nan enstriman yo ki granmoun anpil, pou yo peye frè estidyo pou mizik anne sa a, epi pou achte mayo. Tanrpi - bay sa w kapab - nap byen kontan.
