Kylon Hooks has dedicated his life to serving others, especially those who are often overlooked or marginalized. For years, he worked tirelessly to place LGBTQ youth into safe housing and connect them with supportive services. His leadership extended to directing non-violent intervention and de-escalation policies at one of the largest LGBTQ community service centers in the world. Later, Kylon brought his compassion and expertise to state government, helping resettle immigrants and secure housing for unhoused individuals. Beyond his professional work, Kylon has been a pillar in the leather community and as a social activist within Chicago’s progressive, POC, and feminist movements. His generosity and commitment have touched countless lives, including mine.
Kylon’s leadership in the Chicago recovery community is like none other. He works tirelessly in service in all forms, from putting away chairs, always stepping up to start the meeting comments (legendary), backup dancing for drag queens at fundraisers, and sponsoring and mentoring countless folks over the years.
Recently, Kylon’s contract was terminated due to complex political pressures, leaving him unemployed and struggling to keep up with rent and bills. Despite working long hours driving Lyft, the instability makes it difficult for him to focus on his job search and personal development. Our goal is to help Kylon cover his immediate expenses and provide a cushion so he can prioritize his safety and well-being. This support will allow him to take the time he needs to find meaningful work and continue his journey of personal growth.
As an awesome Black queer man, Kylon has been a leader and role model to so many. He is a leader and a friend to so many, always giving freely of his time, energy, and even his own money. He has provided meals and financial support to friends, including myself, whenever it was needed. Now, it’s our turn to support him. By contributing, you’re helping someone who has never hesitated to help others. Let’s come together to give Kylon the stability he needs to move forward and continue making a difference.
