Show Kya We Care: Secure Housing for a Community Hero

Donation protected
Kya is a Maryland native and chef who has worked her adult life as a community organizer advocating for food justice in DC.

Last month, Kya was physically assaulted by her boss at her restaurant job, forcing her to quit and miss a rent payment. She was swiftly evicted and given one week to find housing for herself and her cat &dog, despite paying off the balance.

As someone who has always put others first, Kya's been hesitant to ask for help. Kya has spent years showing DC she's got us-- let's show Kya we got her too❤️

When she was let go from a service industry gig at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kya cooked vegan meals for folks protesting George Floyd's murder. She then started up weekly distributions of free veggies and hygiene items for the broader DC community in Wards 7 and 8, launching her non-profit, Kyanite Kitchen. See below for Kya's Washington Post feature.

Kya deserves the same deep care and commitment that she's shown her community all these years, including safety, stability, and ease. Give what you can and please share widely. We love you, Kya!
