Support Kushal’s fight for freedom

Donation protected

My friend Kushal has spent over half of his life incarcerated at Vaughn Correctional in Delaware. He’s extraordinarily kind, thoughtful, and loving, and this his last chance at freedom.

Kushal was convicted and sent to jail only a few short weeks after his 18th birthday. The science is very clear: brain development is still ongoing in juveniles and forthis reason, many states are taking life without parole off the table for young defendants. Kushal wants people to know how much he’s grown and changed since being a teenager, and he’s hoping to convince the Delaware Supreme Court to grant him post conviction relief in the form of an early release. But he needs money to help with legal costs.

If you believe in bringing people home from cages and prisons, please take this opportunity to support a truly beautiful person!!!

From Kushal:

"I would like to share two significant facts with everyone. First, I grew up in project housing where there was nothing but violence and drug dealing. I was a kid and this was not an environment that I could escape. In addition, as a kid I suffered from speech issues and as a result I was treated differently and made fun of. When my cousins would go on different outings my siblings would be included and I was not welcomed because it was said that I was a retard and I was embarrassing. So I was left out of a lot of things as a child. I did not have the support and care that a child should have. I was put in a position to fend for myself. I ended up in foster care and group homes. Even until this very day I am the black sheep of my family and I do not get the love and support that others in my family do.

Second, I am seeking donations in order to retain attorneys for an appeal dealing with the age factor. The court has already determined that those under 18 cannot be sentenced to life in prison. However, the brain science which the court relied on actually says that the brain does not stop developing until age 25. I was 18 and 2 weeks old. This science certainly applies to me. If I can get the representation of a competent attorney this will not only benefit me but also so many others so it could be groundbreaking. Second chances are essential because some of us actually better ourselves and I have worked tirelessly to do so. All donations are welcomed and will be so very much appreciated. In advance, thank you all.

Sincerely,
Kushal K. Shah. "
