For my senior project, I want to create something that gives back to the place that has given me so much. I plan to design and install a “Welcome to Orcas” sign to put up at the ferry landing. Alongside that, I’ll be adding smaller signs that recognize the state-level accomplishments of Orcas Island High School athletic teams over the years.

This project means a lot to me because it’s about more than just sports or signs—it’s about community. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of two state championship teams during my time at Orcas Island High School, and those experiences are some of the most memorable and meaningful of my life. But what really stands out to me isn’t just the wins—it’s the people who’ve been there along the way.

I’ll never forget looking up into the stands and seeing people show up, game after game, ferry ride after ferry ride. The community’s support was never just about cheering—it was meals, rides, donations, encouragement, and so much more. The truth is, none of those banners hanging in the gym would be there without the support of the people on this island. This project is a way for me to acknowledge that and say thank you.
