Support Krista's Family in Overcoming Disaster

My name is Candace Lang and I am raising funds for my dear friend, Krista Shalda, whose family has suffered greatly from Hurricane Helene. Krista is a single mom living in Asheville, NC with two children with special needs. Her house was flooded during Hurricane Helene and the water and mold damage is so bad it is uninhabitable. Her sweet family is now living in a hotel room with no idea when they will be able to move back into their home. Krista's youngest son has autism and she has to be concerned about elopement. A couple weeks ago he ran across a busy highway and then locked himself in a car needing the cops to help get him out. Her oldest has a traumatic brain injury making it difficult for him to control his emotions and grasp all that is going on. He is a potter who sells his wares at the local farmers market and all of his equipment, clay and pottery was ruined as his studio was in a small enclosure outside of their home. Months before the hurricane, Krista was recuperating from a double mastectomy and a couple weeks before Helene, a tree fell on her car totaling it. I have always been amazed by Krista's ability to bounce back from every curveball thrown her way but I could hear the exhaustion and desperation in her voice the last time we spoke as she shared that she is unsure how she will recover from this. So many people are suffering from the devastation this storm left behind. Krista's concerns are tripled raising two children with medical and emotional needs on her own, school not in session, very little ability to work out of a hotel room with children and therefore little income coming in.
