Support Kris in Building a Community Shop
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Kris, also known as Prissy. I’m a full time small business owner and single parent, who was born and raised in Koreatown, Los Angeles. I've grown to have a passion for hair and most especially a deep commitment to giving back to the community from a very young age. Because I grew up in a low-income household, almost at the poverty level, and being exposed to mental health awareness, that experience has driven my devotion to supporting those who share a similar background and those who still happen to struggle. I believe everyone deserves the best in every aspect, and I aim to help them even if it means helping them gain the confidence of looking and feeling their best through my services.
Despite not having much, I had the moral, emotional, and spiritual support of my chosen family, who remain a vital part of my life to this day, as well as a beautiful five-year-old daughter who also makes up a lot of who I am today. With the dedication as a single parent, of course, I also wouldn’t have started my business or made it this far without my support system, especially my loyal clientele. I deeply appreciate them—they’re the reason I’m building more than just a salon; I’m building a community where everyone is provided the safe space they deserve.
During Covid I made the huge and what felt risky step at the time, and ventured out on my own. Since then I’ve managed to build my name and make quiet moves each year to get me closer to having a storefront of my own. I have a vision for opening an LA-inspired shop targeted for BIPOC, queer, local, and low-income communities all over Los Angeles, and I hope to work with other fellow like-minded beauty artists, barbers (tattooists and piercers included) as well as partnering with other small business owners curating their own brand in jewelry, clothing, art, etc. This space will provide an opportunity for them to showcase their work beyond online platforms and most importantly become a place where we can all come together as a unit to support each other while servicing the community in all their beauty needs and essentials.
As much as I wish I could fund this business out of pocket, I’m reaching out for your help to make it a reality—whether through donations, advice, getting serviced, or simply sharing this message. Anyone who’s also open to collaborate with a community flea or event where donations can be taken for my business as well as others would also be helpful! Truly anything and every bit helps. I want this potential shop to be a community space we build together. I’m currently and actively continuing to work on my business plan and apply for any grants and small loans for folks like me. Anyone with knowledge in this area please contact me as well! As for any leftover funds through Gofundme, if any, I plan to donate to other struggling small businesses and communities. Please donate, share, contact me! And with any donations given towards my business, I’d love to return the support with free small services and discounts! Thank you all for your time and support. My instagram is @bautisLAhair and my website is bautisLAhair.com for any reference on who I am.
