Help a Local Family Save Their Home

A local mother, Kim Campolo, and her family live in Adams Center, NY, and they’re facing an unimaginable challenge. What was meant to be their forever home almost slipped through their fingers, twice.
Kim and my family had an agreement with the previous homeowner to purchase the house, and they worked hard to make it their own. What they didn’t know was that the homeowner had fallen behind on property taxes for years. One morning, an auction crew arrived on their front lawn with a bright yellow sign, taking photographs, and my family suddenly learned their home was being sold out from under them.

Instead of giving up, their mom and family came together, pooling every resource they had to fight for their home. My siblings, deeply rooted in the South Jefferson school district, couldn’t bear the thought of leaving the school and home they love. Prior to auction day, my mother went to the bank and spoke with a manager to confirm that everything was in place for the auction, and she was assured that there would be no holds placed on the account because the funds were available. On auction day, my mother placed the highest bid and should have secured the home.

But through no fault of her own, a bank error triggered a temporary fraud alert, preventing the transaction from going through. Despite receiving confirmation from the bank manager that the funds were available, the auction house refused to allow my mother the 15 minutes needed to resolve the issue in person. My family lost their chance to purchase the home outright.

Now, they are in the process of buying the house from the second-highest bidder, a step they never should have had to take. While they are grateful to still have the opportunity, the increased cost means that all the funds they had set aside for critical repairs are gone. With four children, three of whom have disabilities, living in the home, these repairs cannot wait. Winter is coming, and they need help.

The most urgent needs include:
  • Replacing the furnace
  • Repairing plumbing and septic system issues
  • Installing new subflooring for safety

Kim C. has fought tirelessly to keep the home and remain part of their community. They are good, hardworking people who would never ask for help unless it was truly necessary. Any support you can give will go directly toward making the home safe, warm, and livable before the cold weather sets in.

Please consider donating or sharing this page to help my family who has already overcome so much. Every dollar brings them closer to stability, comfort, and peace of mind.
