Title: Help Us Stand by Khari’s Side Through His Road to Recovery

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,

On July 6, 2025, our lives were forever changed.

My 24-year-old son, Khari, a senior at the University of Michigan, survived an attempted suicide—an act driven by years of battling mental illness, the weight of academic pressure, working to support himself, and navigating the daily reality of being a young Black man in America.

By the grace of God, Khari is still here. He is currently fighting for his life in the Neuro ICU, having undergone major brain trauma surgery where part of his frontal lobe was removed. He also suffered severe damage to the bones in his chin. The road ahead will be long, uncertain, and extremely difficult—physically, emotionally, and financially.

As a mother, my only focus right now is being by my son’s side—every minute, every hour—while he fights to come back to us. But Khari is out of state, far from home, and the costs of staying near him are quickly adding up. I’ve traveled with my own mother, his grandmother, so we can both be here to support him.

We are humbly asking for support with:

• Lodging expenses while we remain near the hospital

• Cleaning and restoring Khari’s car, where the incident occurred

• Packing and storing his belongings from his off-campus apartment

• Daily costs like food, transportation, and basic living needs as we remain far from home

If you are able, any donation—big or small—will help ease the burden of this unexpected and overwhelming journey. Most importantly, your support allows me to keep showing up for Khari while he’s fighting to recover his life.

Khari is brilliant, creative, sensitive, and deeply loved. He had dreams of graduating and using his story to help others. I still believe he will. But for now, we need help getting through this critical phase of healing and rehabilitation.
