My name is Khamis Al-Rifai, a freelance Palestinian photojournalist.
I have dedicated my life to documenting the struggle and resilience of my people, and to photographing the horrors of war and the strength of humanity amidst unimaginable suffering. I have witnessed every war that has passed here, and I have stood with my camera as a witness to the atrocities and crimes committed against us.
While covering events in my homeland, I have been exposed to great risks while documenting the occupation's violations and attacks on civilians and journalists.
I witnessed the crime of burning the tents in the south, where forces targeted displaced people fleeing death, and burned them inside their tents, in a horrific scene. I also documented a massacre in the central area, during the release of prisoners, where dozens of civilians were killed amidst heavy shelling, while trying to save themselves.
In a horrific incident, I witnessed the targeting of my colleague, journalist Saed Abu Nabhan, when a sniper stationed on a tall building inside the camp shot him directly, hitting him in the back and chest, and he fell to the ground as a martyr on the spot.
One night, during the occupation's incursion into the new camp, I accompanied the ambulance crews to evacuate the wounded, without realizing that military vehicles were close to us. Suddenly, we were directly shot at, forcing us to evacuate the place immediately, and we were unable to save the wounded and martyred.
Despite this direct targeting, I did not back down from my journalistic mission, but rather continued to document the crimes, and transmit the image to the world, to reveal how innocent people are killed even while they are trying to save each other.
I have used my camera for years to highlight the suffering of others, and today I find myself in need of your support. I have lost everything, and I humbly ask for your compassion and generosity to help me and my family survive this darkest chapter in our lives.
Your contribution will go directly towards:
1. Providing financial support to continue my journalistic work without restrictions.
2. Helping me build a new life after losing everything.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help me rebuild my life and the life of my family, and make up for what we have lost in this war that has deprived us of everything.
Donate now to help Khamis and his family find hope amidst the rubble of war.
