Support KG’s Maternity Leave & And the Future of Our Family

Donation protected
I’m KG Martinez. This November, our family of three becomes four as we prepare to welcome our second baby into this wild, beautiful, and complicated world.

Like many self-employed workers, I don’t have paid maternity leave. No paid time off. No employer-sponsored benefits. And because I’m the sole income earner in our household, it means that when I pause to recover from birth and care for our newborn, our income stops — even as rent, groceries, school tuition, and medical care continue.

I’m asking for your support in making maternity leave possible - so that we can thrive, not just survive as we welcome our new family member.

WHY I CHOSE THIS PATH
After the birth of my first child, Ari, in 2021, I made a life-altering decision: to leave behind steady paychecks and institutional benefits and commit fully to work rooted in alignment, purpose, and collective liberation.
I left philanthropy and the nonprofit industrial complex to create ✨Nepantla Navigations ✨ —a coaching and consulting practice dedicated to transformation from the inside out.

WORK HIGHLIGHTS
Since 2022, I’ve partnered closely with Rev angel Kyodo williams and Transformative Change supporting bold, world-shifting initiatives, projects and programs such as:
Together, these projects aim to return humanity to balance and right relationship—with ourselves, each other, and the planet.

I’ve also provided facilitation, coaching and consulting services for many other wonderful organizations, primarily in Colorado. You can see more details of this on my website.

❤️ WHY THIS LEAVE MATTERS
Because of my commitment to this work, I’ve chosen to focus almost exclusively on it for the past few years — saying no to more lucrative opportunities that didn’t align as closely with my values. It’s been a conscious, heart-led decision to prioritize purpose over profit, integrity over hustle culture, and long-term impact over short-term gain.

The truth is, it hasn’t been easy. Like so many families in these times, we’ve hit unexpected curveballs — Andrew navigating school and career transitions, major health challenges, decisions we thought would open more freedom that turned into setbacks, and perpetual transitions in home and location. More than once we’ve had to start over, all while parenting in a time that is not just difficult, but painful and complex — full of grief and heartbreak that we feel in our bodies and in our communities every day.

I don’t share this for pity. I share it because it’s the real context of why this leave matters. It’s not a luxury — it’s what allows us to keep showing up with resilience, integrity, and hope.

I want to parent from the same values that guide my work: to steward life with intention, alignment, and love. To do that requires space, presence, and the ability to show up to family with the same depth I bring to movement work.

That’s what this leave makes possible.
THE NEED: WHAT YOUR SUPPORT COVERS
Our monthly family cost of living is about $7,500 — just enough to cover the basics of living while avoiding total survival mode:
  • Rent & utilities
  • Food & essentials for a family of four
  • Prenatal & postpartum care (out-of-pocket)
  • Ongoing healthcare & mental health support
  • Transportation, insurance, and monthly bills
  • Ari’s school & childcare
  • Infant needs (diapers, wipes, formula, etc.)
  • ‍ ‍Space for Andrew to finish his schooling and career transition, so we can move toward a dual-income household grounded in purpose-aligned work (✨ p.s. Andrew is looking for work, so Denver local or remote leads welcome!)
  • childcare support (if we make it into the stretch goal realm!)

GOALS
✨ BASELINE GOAL: $22,500 (3 MONTHS)
This would cover rent, food, and essential bills so I can take a full three months of leave.

✨ SUPER STRETCH GOAL: $45,000 (6 MONTHS)
In my dream scenario, I’d have a few weeks before birth to prepare my body and home for this major transition, plus flexible/extended postpartum time to bond, heal and recover, and maybe even rest. This would also allow me space to find the values aligned childcare support and re-enter work more gradually and not in full-time-hustle-mode. Six months of support would be life-changing.

❤️ GRATITUDE
I want to be honest that asking for this support is vulnerable. Like so many families, we’ve faced unexpected challenges these past few years — and we’ve also chosen again and again to root ourselves in purpose, even when it came at a cost.

This fundraiser isn’t about luxury. It’s about care, survival, and the chance to welcome new life in alignment with our deepest values.

Your support — in whatever form it comes — helps sustain not only my family, but also the work I’ve given my life to: building futures grounded in love, justice, and collective liberation. It allows me to rest, recover, and bond with our baby while holding faith in the world we are creating together.

Thank you for believing in me, in us, and in the future we’re co-creating. Every gift, every share, every gesture of care is felt deeply in our home.

With love, gratitude, and radical hope,
KG & the fam: Andrew, Ari & baby
