On December 22nd, the Friday before Christmas at approximately 10pm, young Keyanna (14 years old) and Julius (12 years old) Caldwell Jones, experienced an unimaginable loss when their beloved mother Ericka LaRonda Jones, 35 years old, was struck and killed in a horrific hit-and-run accident. A driver recklessly struck Erika as she was walking home, taking her life in the most devastating way and subsequently fleeing the scene. After a year of waiting for justice the driver is facing only 45 days in jail and 3 years probation — a punishment that is immensely disproportionate to the devastation he has caused.
Erika was the sole provider for her 2 children. With no father in their lives, her tragic death has left Keyanna and Julius not only heartbroken, but also without any financial or parental support. These incredible kids — Julius, a talented athlete, and Keyanna, a gifted dancer — now face an uncertain future. They are currently being housed by their 88-year-old great-grandmother, Mabel Jones, who could also use assistance to provide the care, guidance, and resources they need.
The family has been doing everything they can to support these children. Eric Jones, the kids Great Uncle, has stepped in to help with attorney fees to fight for justice, but the financial strain is growing. The family would like help to provide Keyanna and Julius with therapy, counseling, school support, and funds for their futures — including college and everyday living expenses.
We are asking for your support to help ensure these kids have the opportunity to heal, grow, and pursue the bright futures their mother worked so hard to give them. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards supporting Keyanna, Julius, and their great grandmother Mabel Jones, during this unimaginably difficult time.
Thank you for helping us honor Erika’s memory by standing with her children.
