Support Kendra and Cory During Barb's Battle with AML
Donation protected
Hello Friends,
One of my favorite people in the world needs our help.
Kendra Campbell, my beloved seister (our sister-in-law name), has been one of the biggest supports to me during some very dark times. Now she and her brother Cory are barely hanging on through some of their darkest moments.
In early June, during my niece's high school graduation, Kendra and Cory's mom, Barb, started experiencing extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. By the end of the ceremony she couldn't even stay to hug my niece, she had to get home to rest. Nearly two weeks later, her symptoms took a very sharp turn, sending her to the ER in Great Falls, with time in and out of the ICU. The medical team did an outstanding job caring for her and testing for every possible diagnosis that would explain the sudden onset of life-threatening symptoms.
On June 25th a bone marrow test revealed that Barb has leukemia, and further tests revealed she has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). AML is a rare cancer, making up only 1% of all cancer diagnosis in the US. With Barb's condition being extremely critical, they immediately Medevaced her to Washington University Medical Center. The following day Kendra and Cory drove to Seattle to be with their mom. They will both tell you it was the longest and hardest drive of their lives. There were moments on the drive they weren't even sure Barb was going to make it.
Many people in our circle of family and friends have asked what support they can offer right now; prayers and kind thoughts are very welcome, and they truly mean more than words can say. Right now Cory and Kendra are both physically and emotionally depleted, spending 12-14 hours each day at the hospital. This emotional toll is sadly familiar to them both, having lost their dad at a young age, and their step-father as young adults.
Kendra and Cory are so thankful they can be in Seattle with their mom. They anticipate being there a minimum of five weeks until Barb is stable, and potentially up to three months until she can continue her care at home in Montana. Cory is able to do some work remotely, but Kendra has had to step away from her career. For now they have found an Airbnb that is a one mile walk from UW Medical Center. This allows them to have a safe and comfortable place to sleep, space to cook nutritious meals and do laundry; but Seattle is quite expensive.
If you feel led and are able, any financial support would be a huge buoy. Being away from home while helping care for Barb has added major unexpected expenses to Cory and Kendra, and every little bit helps ease the burden. Thankfully Barb has extraordinary insurance, and we anticipate her medical expenses will be covered.
I believe in love and the abundance of good in the world.
Love,
