Hi everyone. For those who do not know me, my name is Kelsey McGinley. I am a single mother to 4 beautiful children, Jax (9), Adrian (6), Leonardo (3), and Lorelai (2). Over the last 3 1/2 years, my family has gone through many hardships. I lost my mother, who was a big support system for me, in January 2022, and then in October of 2023, I had to leave the place I called home for 7 years. Being that I could not afford an apartment, I was left with nowhere to go. Shortly after, I was able to get us into a family shelter. While there, I started working at a brand-new job and was applying for as many housing opportunities as I could. Things were starting to look up for me; I had money saved and was looking forward to a new beginning for my family. After being at the shelter for a year, they would no longer extend my stay, and I was forced to leave. I explained that I did not have any other option than to go to a hotel and would have to pay that on my own. I called 211, emailed/called state representatives, and applied/still currently applying for any low-income housing I can find. All of my paycheck goes straight to paying for the room weekly ($560.00). I am left with little to no money for basic necessities, and I do not have many options left.

I know with making this, it is going to come with a lot of judgment and backlash, because not many people can understand what I am going through, or what I have done behind the scenes to get myself into a better situation. This is the last thing I wanted to do, but I am going to do whatever I can to make sure my children are getting all they need. I am a hard worker; I work full-time and love what I do helping within my community. Thank you in advance to anyone who has taken the time to read my story.
