Hi, my name is Amy Leguizamon, and I’m fundraising for my sister, Kelly.
The first week of September, Kelly advocated for herself and requested an emergency mammogram—despite her annual screening being scheduled for the end of the month—because she had pain and knew something wasn’t right. Her instincts were correct. Soon after, she was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer.
Since then, she has faced every test, appointment, and decision with incredible courage and positivity. She’s been battling this privately, never wanting to burden anyone or draw attention to herself. But with surgery coming up and an unknown extent of treatment ahead, as well as years of ongoing prevention therapy, we know she can’t do this alone.
Kelly will be traveling to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for major surgery on October 14th. This will be followed by an extensive recovery period and continued medical care that will require both time and strength—physically, emotionally, and financially.
Through it all, Kelly’s greatest focus has been her daughter, Quinn. As a single mom who receives no child support, her income is crucial—not just for her own care, but to ensure Quinn’s world remains steady and secure during this time.
Kelly had a lot of reservations about asking for financial help. She’s the kind of person who gives endlessly to others and rarely asks for anything in return. She made it clear she doesn’t want a “handout.” I told her this isn’t that—this is a way for those who love her to support and lift the load a bit. So many people have asked how they can help, and this is one meaningful way to do so.
The funds raised will go toward:
Covering income lost during her surgery recovery and ongoing treatment
Travel and lodging expenses related to her surgery in Sioux Falls
Medical costs not fully covered by insurance
Supporting Quinn’s everyday needs and stability while Kelly heals
Kelly has always been someone who shows up for others with kindness, creativity, and strength. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her. Every donation—no matter the size—will make a real difference in easing her burden and helping her focus on what matters most: healing and being there for Quinn.
From our family to yours, thank you for your love, generosity, and postive energy.
