Hello, I'm Keilyn Herrera Asmen. I'm writing this note to let you know about our situation.

On July 22nd, around 7:50 p.m., in the Leeds, Alabama area, some police officers flashed their lights and stopped us. They asked my husband for ID and didn't explain why they stopped us. Then the officer went to his car, and spent around 10 minutes in his car when more cars arrived. Five white men got out and told my husband to get out because they were going to take him away, since according to them, he had a deportation order. Then they asked me about my immigration status and wanted all my information, and I told them I had the right not to answer that question. They asked me if the girls with us were my daughters and if they were American citizens. I answered, one was my niece and the baby was my daughter, and I told them that they were American citizens. They then threatened me. The immigration officer told me that if he wanted, he could take me right then and there, and he could keep the girls, but that he wasn't going to do it. I asked him to let me say goodbye to my husband, but he only gave me four minutes to say goodbye.
We are not criminals, and we didn't break any law for them to stop us. We were just driving peacefully to church.
They stopped us just for looking Hispanic.

It's worth noting that my husband came to the United States when he was 15, and a month after arriving here, he turned 16 in November.
He came from Guatemala because he was a very poor child and barely ate anything. He has eight siblings, and he'd been working and studying since he was 9. A man, seeing his need, took advantage of him and convinced him to bring him so he could enter the United States. My husband didn't have a father, just a mother, and he adopted him just to bring him and say he was his son. When they arrived in the United States, the man made him work, not study. The man didn't want to show up at immigration, and that's why my husband was automatically given a deportation order. He didn't know anything about immigration, so he didn't show up and didn't study since he had to pay his own rent here... until this July 22nd, he found out he was facing deportation, he didn't know since he was a minor at the time...
That's why it's not fair that because of someone else, he has to be deported when he didn't know anything... He hasn't committed any crimes, he's a very responsible man and always respects the law.
Our baby is 11 months old, and it's just her and I left, and we miss him very much.
That's why we're asking for your help to raise money for his bail so he can be released and be with us.
