My name is Kay, and I’m preparing for shoulder surgery on October 17. This surgery is necessary because I dislocated my shoulder in a fall two months ago. At first, my doctor and I hoped it was a simple dislocation that would heal on its own, so I spent three weeks off work in a sling. When I returned to my jobs, the pain and instability only got worse. After requesting an MRI, I learned that surgery was the only way to recover and regain full use of my arm.

I currently work two jobs—serving at a small restaurant in St. Louis and driving for Instacart. Neither job offers disability benefits, and I have no savings to fall back on after my previous employer closed earlier this year. I’m raising funds to cover two months of rent and basic living expenses while I heal. I’m also the primary caregiver for my grandson, who I’m raising on my own.
