<div>My name is Kay, and I’m preparing for  shoulder surgery on October 17. This surgery is necessary because I dislocated my shoulder in a fall two months ago. At first, my doctor and I hoped it was a simple dislocation that would heal on its own, so I spent three weeks off work in a sling. When I returned to my jobs, the pain and instability only got worse. After requesting an MRI, I learned that surgery was the only way to recover and regain full use of my arm.

<div> I currently work two jobs—serving at a small restaurant in St. Louis and driving for Instacart. Neither job offers disability benefits, and I have no savings to fall back on after my previous employer closed earlier this year. I’m raising funds to cover two months of rent and basic living expenses while I heal. I’m also the primary caregiver for my grandson, who I’m raising on my own. He’s an active soccer player, and making sure he can continue playing is incredibly important to both of us. The thought of not being able to provide for him during my recovery is my biggest worry.
