My name is Tracy and I have a friend who is in desperate need of help. Her name is Kayla and she is a single mother with 2 young children, Andrea (age 9) and Marissa (age 7). I met Kayla at the children's playground in my apartment complex while our kids were playing together. We exchanged numbers and when Kayla's car broke down and she couldn't afford to fix it, I began giving her kids a ride to school each day, so I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Kayla and her 2 girls.
Kayla is a strong-willed, independent mother who will give you the shirt off her back. Over the past 2 years we have been friends, I've seen her help so many people. She's given people money, food, clothes, and a place to sleep. She'll drop everything to help someone without expecting anything in return.
Months ago, she was hospitalized and because of that, she was late paying her rent. So she was expected to pay what she owed plus an additional $125 in late fees, and she couldn't pay it, so she fell behind on rent and was evicted from her apartment. Before she moved out, she found a house to rent, paid a deposit, and moved in only to find out she had been scammed and the person who rented the home to her was not the actual landlord. She tried fighting her case in court so she wouldn't lose the house, but she lost the case and was told to move out immediately! The police showed up today to remove her, her 2 kids, and all of their belongings out on the street. As of right now, she has nowhere to take her children and no place to go.
I can't give her a place to stay because my house is already overcrowded. She has called every place in the area that offers shelter, and because of the recent flooding, the county has no more funds left to help her. GoFundMe might be Kayla's last hope, so I'm putting her story out there in hopes that she can be saved. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this and can contribute to her fund to help Kayla and her kids stay safe and warm this winter.
