Hello everyone,

My name is Kay James I am currently residing in Houston, TX. I am from the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica- one of the hardest-hit areas by Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on October 28, 2025, as a Category 5 hurricane with devastating winds exceeding 170 mph. The storm tore through Jamaica, but the western end especially my parish—suffered unimaginable destruction.

I come from an inner-city community known as Russia which is in the town of Savanna la mar where most of the homes are built on one level.

Today, these houses are either a pile of rubble, roofless or split down the midlle. Many families and neighbors are huddled together the best way they can. They are without the luxury of safe havens, even the schools we once relied on as emergency shelters have been completely destroyed.

The remnants of Hurricane Melissa have left behind nothing but a trail of heartbreak, countless families are now homeless, roads are impassable, and access to food and electricity remains scarce.

Many not only lost their homes, but also their means of providing for their families because even the very place of employment is now history.

While non-perishable food items and supplies are urgently needed, I believe sending cargo shipments at this time may not be the most effective solution. When these shipments eventually reach Jamaica, many affected families will still lack the means to transport the items back to their communities.
Instead, I will be working with a reputable pillar of the community with boots on the ground. They are already doing what they can to help affected individuals. We need your help, no matter the amount , they'll ensure that funds and resources are used efficiently to meet the most urgent needs of individuals and families in Savanna-la-Mar and surrounding areas.

These funds will help to purchase :
Supplies needed to cover or rebuild roofs (Tarpaulins, hammers, nails, tie straps, saws: power and handsaws)
Provide tents to community members
Provide generators to set up charging station in the community.

Our first round of care packages went out today 11/11, seeing the photos receiving the appreciatve messages warms my heart.
