Hi, my name is Kay Acholonu, and I'm raising funds for me to be able to attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. I was elected as a National Delegate for Biden from my 1st Congressional District in Washington (one of 6 delegates from my district, one of 3 females from my district). I will be representing Washington State at the Democratic National Convention on August 19-22. This was my fourth attempt to be elected as National Delegate. This is important to me because I have been politically active since 2008, and this election year is pivotal to protecting our democracy.

My story is a story of inspiration and perseverance. I emigrated to the United States of America from Japan, and I became a U.S. citizen when I was a preteen. I registered to vote when I turned 18 years old, and I have been voting for Democrats ever since then. In 2008, after hearing then Presidential candidate Barack Obama speak, I became inspired to become more involved in the political process. I attended my first precinct caucus in 2008, and I ran for Delegate for Obama. Shortly after that, I started attending the 44th Legislative District Democrats' meetings on a regular basis.

Since then, I have involved myself in roles where I could in the 44th Legislative District. I have been and currently am Treasurer, State Committee Member, and Endorsements Committee Member. I was former Democratic PCO of Misty Precinct, and I’m the current Democratic PCO of Windsong Precinct. I’ve been an active volunteer for the Snohomish County Democrats and active volunteer for several Democratic political candidates. I’m everywhere when it comes to getting Democrats elected up and down the ballot, and I wanted to set a good example for my twin sons and one daughter. One of my sons even door belled with me in the rain back when Jay Inslee was running for Congress. : )

I would like to learn and share my knowledge with other Democrats after attending the Democratic National Convention. Our democracy is at stake. Now that President Biden is no longer running, I am supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.

As a National Delegate, I am a volunteer. All costs associated with travel, lodging, and food while attending the national convention are the responsibility of the delegate, and these costs are estimated at $4,500 which I cannot afford on my own. Delegates are required to stay at the hotel that was assigned to us by the DNC. This hotel is $349 per night before tax. The funds I'm raising will help me pay for the lodging, airfare, and food while I am a National Delegate in August. I would greatly appreciate your help!
