Celebrating Katonya “Buttercup” Burke’s 50th Birthday with a Marathon Milestone!

Katonya Burke is turning 50 this year, and she's marking this incredible milestone the way she does best—by running! On August 31st, Katonya will take on the Sydney Marathon in Australia, completing yet another awe-inspiring chapter in her running journey. Sydney was announced at the 2024 New York Marathon to be the 7th marathon of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Having already conquered the original 6 stars (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York), she will now be earning her 7th star! Katonya continues to set the bar high, inspiring us all with her dedication, passion, and love for the sport.

Katonya isn’t just a runner; she’s a movement. As a co-ambassador of Black Girls Run! Boston, she has tirelessly worked to empower women—especially Black women—to lace up their shoes, hit the pavement, and embrace healthier lifestyles. Whether she’s cheering at the finish line, coordinating events, designing inspiring experiences, or sharing her contagious joy for running, Katonya gives her all to build community and uplift others.
