As a medical provider, one of my goals has been to work on a medical mission trip. With little kids, that dream had to be on hold for a bit. Now with two young adults, I can finally get involved!
I will be volunteering as a surgical assist, to help correct facial malformations - cleft lip and cleft palates, for children in medically underserved region of the Philippines.
I am writing to raise funds for travel and lodging,
Mending Faces is an organization created by my friend and previous coworker, Mimi Wong MD. Each year they travel with surgical volunteers to the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, El Salvador, and Columbia.
"More than $1,000,000 ($12,500 estimated cost of surgery x 80 patients) in free surgical services is provided during the annual mission. The care is provided at no cost to the families."
Any help funding my ability to participate is greatly appreciated!
In addition, if you'd like to donate directly to MendingFaces.org, they have a Colorado Gives link on their website.
Thank you for considering - Karli
