On Friday, my mom, Kari Lambert—a beloved bus driver for Kirtland

Local Schools for the past 28 years—was involved in a serious bus

accident while doing what she loves. Thankfully, no children were on

the bus at the time of the crash. The accident was so severe that

emergency responders had to use the Jaws of Life to free her, as her

leg had become pinned under the dashboard.

Her injuries are extensive. Her lower femur and knee were shattered,

requiring emergency surgery the next day. Surgeons placed a rod from

her knee to her hip to stabilize her femur, along with screws and

plates to help rebuild her knee. She is now non-weight-bearing on that

leg for at least 12 weeks. My sister and I are taking shifts to help

care for her during this difficult time.

My mom is known for always having a smile on her face and greeting

every child on her route with warmth and kindness. She’s someone who

has always put others first—and now she needs our help.

We are raising funds to support her recovery, including, medical

expenses, mobility and rehabilitation equipment, and day-to-day living

costs while she’s unable to work

As hard as this has been, we are incredibly grateful that she’s still with us.
