Support Karen’s Family Through Asylum Challenges

Donation protected
Our family’s beloved nanny, Karen, and her family are legal asylum seekers from Colombia, here in the US trying to escape an increasingly violent situation back home. Her brother and sister-in-law are also here in the US legally doing the same. Karen’s sister-in-law, Juliana, was arrested the Wednesday before Thanksgiving by ICE at a scheduled court check-in for no other reason than “needing to make ICE quotas” (according to an officer she spoke with). She is not a criminal, is following the proper asylum process, and has been working legally in the US. ICE has been holding her in various detention centers with little-to-no information for the family, keeping her, her husband, and family in a stressful limbo state. With no other options, Juliana has opted for voluntary deportation in an attempt to end her unjust imprisonment. Karen and her family have their scheduled asylum appointment next month and we fear what happened to Juliana will happen to them. We are setting up this GoFundMe with the sole purpose of raising money for their families: for travel costs for Juliana’s husband, Juliana’s two beloved cats, and for Karen’s family to fly back to Colombia whenever Juliana’s paperwork is processed. We thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
