Support Karen Janeen's Battle and Wish

My name is Crystal and I am starting a GoFundMe for my aunt Karen. Karen found herself in the ER in December 2023 with severe abdominal and side (back) pain and was immediately diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic (which means it’s spreading to other organs) liver cancer and adenosquamous carcinoma (ovarian malignancy) in February 2024 and started chemo treatment in March 2024. Then after finishing that treatment they found new lesions in her lungs which have not been diagnosed as cancer but there are concerns and they are keeping a close watch on those. She then started having abdominal swelling and severe pain again 1 month after her first round of chemo. Her oncologists wanted her to get in as soon as possible to have surgery to remove as much of the mass as they could but when she saw her GYN oncologist, he did not feel the surgery would be beneficial to her but that it would make things worse. She's now starting a second round of chemo with a new medication that will hopefully work this time. Her insurance has been denying to cover payments for bloodwork and tests, including a $65,000 lab order that was ordered by her doctors. We are staying positive that things get better!

Karen suffered with this pain and continued to work up until she started chemo in March and she became too weak to go to work. Since then, things have fallen on her husband to keep up paying on all their bills as well as taking her to doctors appointments and chemo, among other things, so money has been very tight. In hopes that Karen fully recovers, I asked Karen what’s one thing she always wanted to do or see, and she told me she would love to go with her husband to see our relatives in Italy or go to Poland to see where our other ancestors were born. Because Karen is such a beautiful, fun-loving person (and if you know Karen, you know what I mean), I want to help make this wish come true and also to help give them some financial cushion during this time.
