Support Kane Lee's Life-Saving Eagle Project

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

My name is Kane Lee, and I am a high school junior, a Sunday School student, and an altar server. I am also deeply involved in Boy Scouts. Having been in Scouting since first grade, I am now working toward my Eagle Rank, the highest and most respected achievement in Scouting.

As part of this process, each Scout must design and lead an Eagle Project that demonstrates leadership, service, and commitment to the community. For my project, I would like to fundraise for an AED and stainless-steel wall cabinet for Saint Andrew Kim Catholic Church in Oakland, as well as build a wooden first-aid cabinet to be mounted near the church office.

My inspiration for this project comes both from my future career interests in biomedical sciences and from personal experience. While volunteering at a hospital, I witnessed multiple “code blue” emergencies—situations in which a patient went into cardiac arrest. These moments reinforced for me the importance of immediate access to AEDs, which can dramatically increase the chance of survival.

Given that many members of our parish are elderly, I believe it is not a matter of if but when an emergency may occur. More than 1,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur every day in the United States, and survival rates can jump from 30% to 75% when an AED is used promptly. I’ve attached an article about a man who survived sudden cardiac arrest at his church thanks to the quick use of an AED.

The estimated costs for my project are:
  • $1000 for the AED and stainless steel wall cabinet
  • $200 to $400 for the wooden first aid cabinet, which my team will build
  • $300 for training materials and trainers from American Red Cross or American Heart Association to train staff at St. Andrew Kim
  • $100 for incidentals
  • Any leftover funds will be donated to St. Andrew Kim for ongoing maintenance of AED and first aid supplies

Every donation counts and will be greatly appreciated. I truly believe this will make a difference within our community.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Kane Lee
