Kalena Genesis is moving to Hawai’i .

My name is Wendy Stuart, and I am looking to bring together a community of family and friends to help support my incredible daughter, Kalena Genesis.

Kalena has just graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelors of Science in geophysical sciences and will be attending The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa to pursue a PhD in Oceanography this fall. She loves research and helping solve the problems that plague our waters. She had a hard choice between Stanford and Hawai’i, and while logistically Stanford would have been easier, she is following her passion to the stellar program that Mānoa offers. The school flew her down for a visit, leaving her inspired by the research facility and the staff she would be working alongside. She is thrilled for this 5 year opportunity, but getting there is costly to say the least. Shipping her belongings/car isn’t cost effective, so she will be starting from scratch. On top of that, prices/cost of living in Hawai’i are higher. If you feel compelled, she could really use your help. This amazing young woman has overcome many challenges in a short amount of time and continues to shine bright. She entered her journey into recovery at the age of 19 and has now graduated from college 2 1/2 years sober!! Not many young people could get derailed and get back on track in less than 2 years. She not only returned to school, but she thrived. I am beyond proud of her for accomplishing everything she sets forth to do and doesn’t let finances, logistics, addictions or any other obstacles stand in her way! Thank you for loving and supporting this incredible young woman of science with me.
