Hi all!! This is Juniper (they/he), I am a Black, trans, disabled person living in the South, asking for much needed support covering basic living expenses and purchasing additional accessible supports as I’m dealing with severe health issues that have left me unable to work in the capacity I was able to previously.
Since April, I have experienced a sharp increase of seizures that have severely impacted my physical and mental state, which in turn greatly affects my job as a sign language interpreter. The mental capacity and physical fortitude needed to work in sign language interpretation full-time (or even sustainably part-time) is just not present for me at this time as I navigate increasing mobility and autoimmune health problems stemming from long-covid. I also do not have health insurance currently (which I hope to change during marketplace open enrollment this fall), but have finally started working with an accessible healthcare team to start pursuing diagnosis and treatment for my conditions.
I have been struggling to work since April, using every bit of energy to work while supplementing with the little savings I had. I took the month of June off work completely in order to rest and engage resources regarding the mental and physical health crises I was in at the time. I deeply appreciate the mutual aid sent from community members during that month in order to sustain my survival.
As I’ve tried to return back to work in July, I’ve been experiencing health flare ups that are still impacting my ability to work. This is causing immense distress as I battle for financial stability/survival while still trying to give my body the time and space it needs to heal.
I am seeking support with the monetary goal listed here ($7,000) to cover my living expenses, basic needs, and medical expenses, as well as purchase some accommodations for my continuous wellbeing. A detailed breakdown of how funds will be used is as follows:
- $4,470 - two months of living expenses (rent, utilities, car insurance, groceries) while attending specialist doctors appointments to pursue diagnosis and treatment, and to allow time for my body to recover
- $1,100 - past due medical bills from ongoing mental health management in the past year
- $200 - past due electric/gas bills
- $200 - rollator and additional cane supports (mobility aids)
- $90 - Visible armband (for illness monitoring)
- $180 - Visible 1-year membership
- $150 - work desk chair with adequate back support
- $100 - electrolyte therapy
- Remaining $510- to cover copays for upcoming doctor appointments
Thank you for helping me find stability during this stressful time where so many aspects of my health are changing. Please donate if you’re able and share with your communities. Thank you for all the love and support you all have shown.
With love,
