Support Julie Perez: Help Rebecca's Final Journey

Story

Hi everyone. I am Julie Perez. My mama, Rebecca, is currently in hospice care. She entered the hospital on Monday, June 9, 2025, where she was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer. Her illness progressed very fast and our time with my mama is nearing its end. As many of you know, my mom not only raised her kids, but she also was mother to her 5 grandkids. When my mom decided to raise my nieces and nephews as her own, I assisted in supporting the kids from the beginning. We were a team. However, after my brother Carlos had a stroke in October and passed in December, I was fired from my job. Because he fell ill in Chicago, it was up to me to be the primary caregiver and advocate for him, and I also assisted in paying for the funeral arrangements for him. As I am now only working part-time with the Horton Research Group at Northwestern, I am unsure how I will manage future expenses related to the hospital stay, the funeral, and general final expenses of my mom's life. I do not even know how great the expenses will be, but they all fall to me. In addition, the last of my mama's grandkids living at home is 14 years old. I will take custody per my mama's will. As you can imagine, all of us are devastated we are losing her, especially after losing my brother so recently. To know my mama is to know kindness. She was too kind for this world, truth be told. She had a difficult life as her father passed when she was only 4 years old. While she never had a lot, materially or financially, she was always willing to give someone the last of what she had. I have supported my mama for a very long time, but I just haven't recovered from our last family loss. I have always hated asking for help and admitting our financial situation, but I am at a loss as to how I will support my family this time. Please help if you can.
