On Thursday, Julie Bagley celebrated the grand opening of Latitude 43, surrounded by the people who had helped her bring it to life. Just days later, a fire left her facing the loss of everything she had worked so hard to build.
Julie bought the bar in Canandaigua, NY, only a few months ago and poured her heart and savings into it. From the first-floor bar to the fourth-floor rooftop, she was creating a place where people could gather, feel welcome, and make memories.
For Julie, opening those doors meant something deeply personal. Three years ago, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. After fighting through treatment, she is now in remission. Latitude 43 was her chance to look ahead with excitement—to put her energy into something she loved after everything she had endured.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a fire tore through the building. Thankfully, everyone made it out safely. But the damage is extensive, and there is no clear timeline for reopening. Julie and her team are now facing an uncertain future without the income they depend on.
While insurance will help, it is expected to cover only about a quarter of what Julie invested, leaving a significant financial gap. The time, care, and sacrifice she put into this place make the loss even harder.
Anyone who knows Julie knows she is the first to show up when someone needs help. Asking for that same support isn’t easy, but she shouldn’t have to carry this alone.
Your donation will help with rebuilding costs, lost income, and supporting Julie and her team while Latitude 43 remains closed. Any amount will help ease the burden. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page can help us reach others who can.
We were there to celebrate with Julie on opening night. Let’s be there for her now, when she needs her community most. Thank you for helping her find a way forward.
