"Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago" - Warren Buffett
As Julia’s Dad, I feel it’s my responsibility to support and mentor Julia as she develops over her youth. I am a believer in going to college as a way of thinking, developing, and experiencing something new.
To support Julia in her future college career, I currently cover her cost to go to college through Florida’s Prepaid College program. Keyla and I pay about $125 a month to cover her 4-year tuition. Of course, tuition is not the only cost that’s incurred. There are substantial housing, food, books, and transportation costs while in college.
I have opened a Schwab One Custodial Brokerage account for Julia so she can begin saving and investing. With the support of Julia’s family and friends, I would like to begin planning for these expenses. These funds will be invested until she is 18 and withdrawn when Julia goes to college.
I’m calculating about $25,000 a year for 4 years for all of her housing, food, transportation, books, etc. To cover these costs, Julia will need to invest about $3,500 a year for the next 17 years.
At the end of the year, if Julia does not hit her goal of $3,500, then Keyla and I will cover the remainder.
We would love your support in making her start on life a successful one. There is no obligation to provide anything; however, Julia will appreciate this act of kindness when she is older.
*Any time someone provides funds, I will send a screenshot of the receipt in her custodial brokerage account for confirmation.
