I am creating this fundraiser for my dear friend Julia, who has recently endured devastating loss in a short span of time. Julia lost her older brother / best friend Craig, and their mother, both suddenly and under tragic circumstances, shortly after losing her step-dad. Craig died soon after last year's fires in CA destroyed their childhood home in the Pacific Palisades.
Craig was an old friend of mine (friends since 1987). Together with two of his oldest & closest friends, I have been doing everything I can to support Julia during this incredibly difficult period.
Julia has Multiple Sclerosis, is wheelchair-bound, and suffers from seizures. She is in dire need of financial assistance as she awaits help from the Oregon Dept. of Human Services (ARDC), an organization that connects people with adult care living facilities. Unfortunately, despite our appeals and repeated messages to her caseworker and supervisors, ARDC has not yet provided the help Julia needs.
Julia worked for her brother, prior to his death, while collecting SSI, with the mutual understanding that her tax payments would make her eligible for SSDI. However, her social security payments were later garnished, leaving her with far too little to cover her rent. Currently, she is not permitted to work if she wishes to continue receiving benefits. In January, she was evicted from her apartment while awaiting ARDC’s assistance. She moved into a university hotel, but after reaching the maximum stay, she had to leave. I helped her to move to a local Marriott Inn, and with the help of Craig's two friends, have been paying hotel costs. Without this help, Julia would be homeless.
As Julia continues to work with ARDC, her expenses are mounting. I am committed to helping with her hotel costs until a safe place is found.
We would be deeply grateful for any donations to help cover Julia’s hotel, food, and living expenses while she bravely hangs on, waiting for some good news. Your support will make a real difference in her life and help her find stability during this crisis.
