Christian Counselor Assaulted
Incident Inspires Revised Method
For more than two decades, Michael Voss has led Joshua House Inc., a ministry dedicated to evangelizing, counseling, and providing housing for adult men struggling with dysfunctions rooted in anti-social behaviors and criminal activity—often the result of alcohol and drug addiction. The program's approach centered on direct, on-site counseling, which was once highly effective. However, changing social norms have made this front-line work increasingly hazardous, regardless of the counselor’s skill or age. In the past, there was a shared respect for authority figures, elders, and those offering help, but today’s environment has normalized violence, creating new risks for those serving in these roles.
A Turning Point and Resilient Response
Following a client’s assault on Mr. Voss, the future of Joshua House Inc. was uncertain. Rather than shutter the program, Michael Voss chose to persevere in his “Kingdom Work,” continuing to evangelize and counsel men in need. Drawing strength from Hebrews 13:15—“The Sacrifice of Praise”—he remained committed to transforming both good and bad experiences into praise and faith in Jesus. This conviction led to the formation of Joshua House 2.0.
The Evolution of the Mission
Although the mission statement and goals remain largely unchanged, Joshua House 2.0 now operates from a different pulpit. The organization has transitioned to a supervisory and consulting mission, offering charitable financial support to well-intentioned, Christian-based programs. The core philosophy of Joshua House 2.0 is “Altruistic,” with zero pursuit of financial gain. The mission is to “Plant Seeds,” giving freely and remembering to do good and share with others, as emphasized in Hebrews 13:16: “For with such sacrifices, God is well pleased.”
Inviting Partnership in Service
Joshua House 2.0 welcomes others to join in this mission of love and sacrifice. The goal is to work together with “The Brethren,” offering aid and guidance to those striving to help others. By supporting and partnering with like-minded programs, Joshua House 2.0 seeks to extend its impact and encourage a cycle of service.
A Personal Note of Faith and Praise
Over the past twenty-five years, Jesus has provided for and protected Joshua House Inc., enabling the organization to counsel and lead those in need to the peace and safety found in Christ’s loving arms. Now, this work continues from a new platform, supporting other programs committed to helping those in need. The hope is to inspire others to “help others help others,” trusting that this new method will be blessed just as Joshua House Inc. has been.
