On August 18th, Jorge, a single father and contributing community member, was arrested by ICE. Jorge and his daughters were heading to the girls' Durango Elementary School. Jorge is a tax-paying, social security card-holding, beloved member of this community. The immigration officers broke the car's windows with the daughters inside the car. There was no warrant furnished, which is required for an arrest.
There are multiple ripples of impact from this incident, including lost wages, trauma and fear, delayed school start, legal fees, and the pain of being separated from family.
We are hoping to raise $20,000 for Jorge's legal fees in hopes that he can return home swiftly to his family and continue caring for his daughters and being the responsible, contributing community member he's always been.
