Hello,
My name is Jorge Romo Flores and I am a DACA recipient who has been working towards becoming a U.S. Permanent Resident for the last 10+ years. The financial cost of this process has become something that unfortunately my family and I can no longer endure. On January 6th, 2023, I was involved in a serious single person car accident. On my way into work that morning, I had a tonic-clonic seizure also known as a grand mal seizure while driving. Thankfully, it happened in the parking lot of the Franciscan Health Hospital, the place of my employment, and I was able to receive immediate medical assistance. I suffered a broken vertebrae on my C-6 Spinal Cord. Because of this accident, I was unable to work for 4 months. Due to my type of employment, I was unable to receive short term disability, and we were living off of my wife's teacher salary. Because of medical costs, and loss of wages, this accident exhausted most of our savings. We are still recovering financially because of this accident which is the reason we are asking for help via GoFundMe.
Because of the complexity of my immigration case, we had to seek legal counsel. After inquiring multiple lawyers to see what our best options are, we were finally able to find one that best fits my case. We do have MetLife Legal assistance via my employer, but even after their assistance towards the cost of this attorney, we are still to pay a significant amount on top of all of the USCIS application fees, that just increased in April 2024. (These fees almost doubled) In addition, I was awarded Advanced Parole through DACA, and I was reunited with my mom and siblings after 18 years apart. As amazing as that was, the trip back to Mexico only put us further behind financially. This trip was essential to continue my immigration journey so that I can become a legal US resident. I do want everyone to know that my wife and I are very hard working parents and hate having to ask for help. We have both taken on second jobs to try and help with these legal costs, but unfortunately it just isn't enough. We appreciate everyone for considering, donating, or sharing our story and we look forward to one day returning all the help that has been given to us in similar situations.
Here is how any proceeds will be used:
Attorney Fees: $3,200
