My name is Jorge Edward Martinez. I had been employed in transportation until recently. I fell ill after suffering from HS (Hidradenitis Suppurativa) (HS), a chronic skin condition characterized by painful, recurring, boil-like lesions, most often in areas where skin rubs together, like the armpits and groin, also known as Acne Inversa, a condition that develops boils all over your body, leaves you raw, and kills the skin.

I have lived with this for a long time, paying for Humira, an extremely expensive medicine. I do not have medical insurance and was never able to get Medi-Cal. However, I was able to pay for it.

I am currently in the hospital with an illness called HS, also known as Inversa Acne. My body develops all these boils all over. I have had this condition for a long period of time, but now it has gotten to the point where I can no longer withstand the pain. The hospital has done surgery twice; they are trying to get all the dead skin off. My body is raw with open wounds. They will try to do a couple more surgeries, then they will try to do skin grafts afterward. I had to stop working and will probably be off for a long time. The first time I went to the hospital, Kern Medical Center, they helped me get emergency medi-cal. After a long process, I got medical which is covering my hospital stay.

I have filed for disability, but it will take a long time to get it. They tell me it could be 4-6 months because I worked out of state. It is an issue.

I am asking for help so I may pay for other medications and some of the bills.

My parents are older, in their 70s, and are helping as much as they can.
